Dana, there's another really bad show to watch

Missed you this weekend.

Steve told us that you like to watch Numb3rs. I'm with you there. Solving crime by complex math equations--who can argue with that.

But have you seen Criminal Minds? You learn new important lingo - like "unsub", which is unknown suspect. I don't know why it's not "unsusp", but hey only the Quibbler would be flummoxed by the inconsistency. It is the most monotonous tv show yet - in terms of both its monotonic speech and storyline. It's like the monotonous commercial Mandy Patinkin does for some extremely dangerous cholesterol drug. He is the star of the Criminal Minds. Accident? Coincidence? I don't think so.

Check it out.

Eileen

From the Jayhawk Country

The Lawrence Journal-World reported yesterday on a Nebraska man who was one of four people in the 3 million-person ESPN pool who chose George Mason to make it at least this far. He had an extensive interview with all kinds of hype about what a great basketball fan he is, etc. Then, when asked by the reporter about choosing Geo Mason, he replys, "I got 'em mixed up with George Washington." Gotta love it.

OK's Sampson to Indiana, Alford to Fieldhouse bar for nickel night

Kelvin Sampson is leaving Oklahoma to become the IU basketball coach. Iowa seems stuck with greasy weasel Alford.

Good for IU, bad for UofI.

Sunday results and standings after four rounds

Meine Gutefreundes (learned German from Hogan's Heroes),

Well, well, what a Sunday. George Mason? Nobody picked those guys. And Florida? Despite a pretty good year, only Dana, David and Ruth picked them to get into the Final Four. Congrats to you three eggheads. Of those three, it's worth pointing out, only Dana has them going any farther. In fact, Dana has them winning the whole thing. What looked like a...well...um...eccentric pick before the tourney started now seems to have the prescience of Nostradamus, if not the beard of Nostradamus. Way to go, DD!

So, only 12 points to hand out yesterday, since only three of us managed to get a pick right. Here are the standings with only three games left to play:

1. Mike - 71 (the three famous Winklers: Henry, the lady who just offed her minister husband, and Mike)
2. Maggi - 62 (reveling in her husband-sinking performance this year)
2. Ruth - 62 (Nice come from behind, late round liftoff)
4. Eileen - 61 (quietly racking up points)
4. David - 61 (another out of nowhere candidate)
6. Dave - 58
6. Favs - 58 (this is where favs bows out, of course)
6. Sophie - 58
6. Steve - 58
10. Dayle - 57
10. Sarah - 57
12. Matt - 56
13. John - 54
13. Scott - 54
13. Kn'ott - 54 (I'm adopting Mon'ter Glasper punctuation in my name)
16. Bill - 53
16. Calvin - 53
18. Dana - 49
19. Dykes - 47
20. Hank - 46
20. Liz - 46
22. Ben - 44
23. Gena - 42
24. Acy - 41
24. Jonathan - 41
26. Willow - 40
27. Ellie - 29 (Matt and Liz's baby beat of Maggi's and my baby. Bully)
28. Alexander - 28 (poor little tyke)

That's it. I will, later, send out who picked whom for the Final Four. Not many people are in a position to get more points. It was a crazy year. I haven't determined whether anyone can catch The Wrinkler, but I seriously doubt it. More data to crunch. I might do a little work, too, if the mood strikes me.

Sad to see it winding down.

And now for something completely different...

Friends,

I'm missing the hospitality of the Knott home as prepared by his lovely wife, Maggi. As she and all of our wives know, it is a woman's pleasure to make a home for her husband. We , gentlemen, are truly lucky...

http://feministing.com/GoodHousewife

Back to the Midwest

Completely broke from my conference and pool committee meetings in the DC area, I am now back in Bloomington. Thanks Jackson/Knott for a stimulating weekend, especially for allowing me to perform home maintenance duties while there. May the railing hold until you have closed on your house and if I know my work, it would be best if you sold sooner rather than later.

And to Wrinkler, rest assured we are now Pool 2.0 compliant here in the Backs household.

Go Mason!

Jackson/Knott Family Sidebet Tragedy!!!

Friends,

The terrible day we have dreaded has finally arrived. With today's games, it became mathematically impossible for me to catch Maggi in the house pool. Crap. Crap, Crap Crap. I hate this, I do, I hate it. I lost, I'm a loser, I'm THE loser. Aaarrrggghhh.

It's now my job to figure out the ($*&^#(($*%& traveling trophy. Worse yet, I have to present it to The Wrinkler. (I know I should be calling Mike by his traditional Pool nickname, The Quibbler, but I like the The Wrinkler better. So there.)

Well, crapola. Now I have to put up with Maggi strutting, preening and bragging for a year. The first time she offers to explain the difference between zone and man-to-man, I'm jumping out the window.

Deep, deep, in blackest grief, I am

Yours
(wi' head hung low)

Standings after Saturday's games

So, another day's hoop gone. We've been sitting around on our duffs all day. Mike, Eileen and Steve are all staying with us, which has been a riot. Let's just say that I've been watching hoop through a alcohol haze. Basketball this year seems very blurry to me.

After Saturday's games, it looks as though nobody's going to catch Mike this year. Congrats to him. Mike was the only player to get the LSU win right. Nicely picked. A bunch of us (me, Maggi, Dayle, Eileen, Gena, Liz, Matt, Ruth and Scott) got the UCLA win right. Four points for each correct pick today and tomorrow.

Here are the standings after Saturday's games:

1. Mike Winkleheimer, our probable champ (4) - 71
2. Maggi (4) - 62 (man, you don't know how bad this is for me)
3. Eileen (4) - 61
4. Favs (0) - 58
4. Dave (0) - 58
4. Ruth (0) - 58
4. Sophie (0) - 58
4. Steve (0) - 58
9. David (0) - 57
9. Dayle (4) - 57
9. Sarah (0) - 57
12. Matt (4) - 56
13. John (0) - 54
13. Scott (4) - 54
13. Knott (4) - 54
16. Bill (0) - 53
16. Calvin (0) - 53
18. Dykes (0) - 47
19. Hank (0) - 46
19. Liz (4) - 46
21. Dana (0) - 45
22. Ben (0) - 44
23. Gena (4) - 42
24. Acy (0) - 41
24. Jonathan (0) - 41
26. Willow (0) - 40
27. Ellie (0) - 29
28. Alexander (0) - 28

More to follow. Hic.

Saturday's picks------

Only two games today. Sad, really, isn't it? I think the tournament ought to have wrestle-backs like, well, wrestling. OK, I'll stop with the jibberjabber.

Here are today's picks:

4. LSU - Mike
2. Texas - Knott, John, Steve
------------------------------------------------
1. Duke - Everybody Else
10. NC St. - Acy
13. Iona - Alexander
6. West Virginia - David, Ellie
15. Penn - Gena
3. Iowa - Jonathan
5. Syracuse - Sarah

1. Memphis - Favs, Hank, Jonathan, Sophie, Steve, Mike
2. UCLA - Knott, Maggi, Dayle, Eileen, Gena, Liz, Matt, Ruth, Silet
--------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Gonzaga - Acy, Bill, Ben
12. San Diego State - Alexander
4. Kansas - Calvin, Dave, Dykes, John, Sarah, Willow
5. Pitt - Dana, David
14. Xavier - Ellie

Standings after Friday's games

Poolites,

Well, another day's hoop is over, and I'm drifting downward in the standings. That will never do. Last night's games were good ones, wish I'd picked better. Nobody got all 4 games, but we do have a couple of geniuses to report on. Gena and Steve got the George Mason game right, I don't really understand what made them think of picking Mason. That's why I lose every year, I guess. A bunch of people got UConn and Villanova, but on Maggi, Dana, David, Eileen, Matt and Ruth picked Florida. Mike is still whipping the field, and Dave and Eileen got 3 of the 4 games right yesterday. Congrats to the bigbrains among you.

The standings, then, after Round Three:

1. Mike (6) - 67
2. Dave (9) - 58
2. Favs (6) - 58 (Again, embarrassing)
2. Maggi (6) - 58
2. Sophie (6) - 58
2. Steve (6) - 58
7. David (6) - 57
7. Eileen (6) - 57
7. Sarah (6) - 57
10. John (3) - 54
10. Ruth (3) - 54
12. Bill (3) - 53
12. Calvin (6) - 53
12. Dayle (6) - 53
15. Matt (3) - 52
16. Scott (3) - 50
16. Knott (3) - 50
18. Dykes (3) - 47
19. Hank (6) - 46
20. Dana (6) - 45
21. Ben (6) - 44
22. Liz (6) - 42
23. Jonathan (0) - 41
23. Acy (0) - 41
25. Willow (3) - 40
26. Gena (3) - 38
27. Ellie (0) - 29
28. Alexander (0) - 28

As a result of my crappy showing last night, the only way I can beat Maggi is if Texas wins today and then wins next week. How likely is that? We'll see.

Pool Committe News

Pool Committee members, 2006.

We have made a few decisions regarding next year's pool:

1) Entry fees will be re-introduced. This was forwarded by Winkler, who was wrecked to learn there no prize this year...and by the way what happened to his entry fee, Chrissy? Kids will be charged a reduced fee, which was deemed appropriate as the best way to introduce them to the fine american tradition of destroying the country's office productivity for 1/12th of the year.

2) The traveling trophy. Admitting that he and Maggi are unlikely to ever actually make such a thing, Chrissy proposed to shrink wrap a Quarterpounder with cheese, which will serve as the traveling trophy until Alex is old enough to make one for them. Unfortunately, at this point he seems only capable of a singular artform which is unfortunately not approved for shipping via USPS or FedEx.

3) Points. Those who picked George Mason (ever notice that the root of genius is Gen?) pulled a mini-Anschluss on the Meister and have forced the committee to create a new point-weighting system for the lower seeds who go deep into the tourney. Naturally, this will guard against the possibility of an 11 seed ever going further than the second round again.
Anyhoo- we'll work that scheme out at the next meeting, to be held in Portland. Then we will ask Dayley Boy to devise a new scheme for us, since our entire time there will be spent awash in beer, butter and lobster.

After the meeting, PoolMeister Chrissy gave us a tour of Poolcentral. Here are a few pics:

Chrissy's new laptop.

Poolmeister's private privy.

Poolmeister's remotes. And his knitting.

Lastly, Poolmeister just left to take Acy to rehearsal and Maggi is changing everyone's picks in the spreadsheet.

Standings after Thursday - Winkler in a Walkover

Dearies,

Bow down to the Wrinkler. Mike got all four Thursday games right (the only one of us who did) and now leads the pool by a mile. Unless something goes disastrously wrong (think mean reversion here) the Trophy will be Mike's. Congrats to the Wrinkler. Some got none of the four games right, Mike got four, most of us got two.

As for the side bet with my bride, I'm still losing. Thing is, I think there are only two ways I can win. If Texas makes it to the final game, win or not, I'll finish ahead of Maggi. If Georgetown beats Florida and Texas wins Saturday, I win. Every other combination of events leaves Ms. Jackson the house champ. Wish accordingly.

Here are the standings after Round Three, Day One. The number in parens is the points earned in Thursday's games:

1.Mike (12) - 61
2.Favs (9) - 52 (this is pathetic, people)
2.Maggi (9) - 52 (this, too, but for different reasons)
2. Sophie (9) - 52 (Sophie picked the favorites in every game. Good strategy this year.)
2.Steve (9) - 52 (out of nowhere)
6.David (3) - 51
6.John (6) - 51
6.Sarah (6) - 51 (any Prown-Coleman side betting?)
9.Bill (9) - 50 (our English entry creeps up the standings)
10.Dave (3) - 49
10.Matt (3) - 49
12.Eileen (3) - 48
12.Ruth (6) - 48
14.Calvin (6) - 47
14.Dayle (9) - 47
14.Knott (6) - 47
14.Scott (3) - 47
18.Dykes (6) - 44
19.Acy (3) - 41
19.Jonathan (3) - 41
21.Hank (6) - 40
22.Dana (0) - 39
23.Ben (0) - 38
24.Willow (0) - 37
25.Liz (3) - 36
26.Gena (3) - 35
27.Ellie (0) - 29
28.Alexander (3) - 28

Poor A-Knott, stuck in last place. I can't believe that you people would pick on a 4 month old boy. Shame on you all. I did just hear, though, that the little guy just turned over from his stomach to his back for the very first time a few minutes ago. I'm 43 and I still can't do that.

Flash!!! Huggins offered Kansas State job!!!

Looks like Huggs will be prowling the sidelines once again. Steve, Dana, whaddya think of this development? Moving to Kansas?

Friday's picks

Chums,

Whilst I've half a mo (sorry, been a reading English murder mystery, don't tell me trouble and strife)...let me start again, here.

While there's a lull in the baby crying marathon that is our lives, I figured I'd go ahead and send the Friday picks now. Bet you're thrilled, no?

Here goes:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
8.Kentucky - Alexander, Gena (or here?)
4.Illinois - Jonathan

11.George Mason - Gena, Steve (what made you both think of picking Mason?)
7.Wichita State - Willow (or these guys?)

15.Davidson - Acy, Calvin

Thursday's picks

Dear Poolies,

OK, OK, four games tomorrow, four on Friday. Man, it's racing to the end, and Maggi's still whupping me. I can't take losing, I can't. Well, no chance for me to make up any ground tomorrow, given our picks. That ain't right.

But enough about me and my troubles (although I'll happily continue if you'd like...well?...no?...all right, all right, on with it.)

Here, then, are the Thursday picks:

1.Duke - Everybody else
4.LSU - John, Mike
------------------------------
13.Iona - Alexander
9.UNCW - Ellie
5.Syracuse - Gena, Sarah, Steve

6.West Virginia - David, Ellie, Matt, Sarah
2.Texas - Everybody else

Meanwhile, I am sitting through a really horrible movie waiting for Mike - "Keeping the Faith". Don't check it out. It's just beyond bad.

Shockers - Braves

Curious whether anyone correctly picked the Whichita State - Bradley matchup? I had WSU losing to somebody, oh yeah, Kansas. Lesson here is don't overlook the Mo Valley. The Meister will remember Maury John's many great Drake teams from years gone by. How nice would it be to see one of these teams make it to the final four.

Another try at the standings

Folks,

Turns out that those of you looking at the blog using IE get a weirdly truncated version of the standings. I've just copied the standings from Excel and pasted them into the blog authoring screen. It works fine using Firefox, but apparently IE won't properly display the Excel table. Too bad the same company doesn't own IE and Excel, right? This won't be pretty, but all the piece will be there.

So, here's another copy. I hope this works better:

Player Thru Sat Sun R2-Total

Root for Duke

NC state lost! It's not Raleigh or Chapel Hill but it is the only North Carolina team we have left. Please feel sympathy!

Sunday Results and Standings after Round Two

OK, OK, people, settle down. Let's take stock and see where we are at this dramatic juncture. First, the bad news: Maggi is now 5 points ahead of me. Our picks are so similar that from this point forward it's going to be hard for me to catch her. And now the worse news: she knows it. Life's getting tougher and tougher around here.

We had a number of geniuses at work today. In terms of total picks right today, Maggi, Matt, Sarah and Mike all got 6 of the 8 games right, for a staggering 12 total points. Killer. You'll see that all four of these Einsteins shot up the standings. The top tier of the standings are also sick-makingly stuffed with Prown-Colemans. [Sounds of sobbing and retching offstage.]

In terms of individual game picking, most people got wins by Texas, Memphis, UConn, Villanova. About half picked Georgetown, slightly fewer got West Virginia right. Nobody picked Bradley. Only Gena, Sarah and Steve got the George Mason game (what on earth made you think to pick them? Amazing.)

Anyoldhoo, the standings after Round Two are:

Player Thru Sat Sun R2-Total
1.Mike 37 12 49
2.David P. 40 8 48
2.Sarah 36 12 48
4.Dave W. 38 8 46
4.Maggi 34 12 46

Bradley!

Wow, did anyone pick Bradley to go to the Final Four? What a balanced team.
I'm in for the day now, after doing a little yard work, having perhaps broken my thumb with a sledge hammer. Nothing like getting out there early in the gardening season and getting the injuries out of the way quickly. On the upside, it's a good reason to start self medicating immediately.

Unfortunately, I get to watch Uconn/KY; no one to root for in that one.

Where am I?

Hi there, it's Willow. Am I winning? or not ?

Poolies,

For those of you not spending Sunday in church, there's basketball. The pool is just heating up folks, and even though I'm hopelessly mired in the middle, I'm harboring irrationally high hopes for tomorrow. That's me, eternal optimist. The sun'll come out, tomorrow....

Good luck out there, folks. Good luck and good night, to coin a phrase.

Results and Standings - Round 2, Day 1

Cherubim and Seraphim,

Awright, we've now had three days of hoop. 40/63 of the tourney is over. I'm languishing in the middle, which is ok, but I'm 1 point behind my bride, which is definitely not ok. I just don't have the maturity to lose gracefully. Fortunately, she doesn't either, so there's at least one tantrum assured in our household within a few weeks. (Not that there wouldn't be at least one in the normal course of business.)

8 games today, worth 2 points each. Nobody got all 8, but David Prown and Dave Wallenberg each got 7 of 8, which is pretty awesome. Congrats to both. Mike and Eileen stayed near the top of the heap. Some rise, some sink, and tomorrow's another day. Kind of Old Testamenty, isn't it? Unconvincing analogy coming from the tourney's most committed scoffer at religion, too, no? Anyway, I sucked today, others did much, much better. I'm planning to max the field starting tomorrow. Better tape up your socks, people.

Here are the standings:

Nowhere to go but down

That's the thing about being in first place...happened to me in high school track too. Once I was in first place, leading the pack! I couldn't believe it, I'd always been behind at least two other runners. But there I was in the lead...Then one guy passed me. Ok, so I turned on the afterburners...Then another guy passed me. So I really pulled out all the stops, my arms were pumping, my feet floating above the cinder track...I was flying! Then one of my track teammates put his hand on my shoulder and pushed me to the outside so he could get by...

That's how I've felt today as I've watched the games.

As for my computer virus problem...here's the real virus problem...

Meanwhile, Mike's machine has been fighting virus after virus yesterday and all day today. He can barely get time in before he gets shut out again.

IU's next coach?

There are rumors here in B-town. Most IU fans still want Alford. Chrissy probably wouldn't have a problem with that, right?

Round One Results and Standings

People,

OK, Round One is over. 32 teams out, including my beloved Hawkeyes. Maybe your favorite team is out, too. Yeah, well, whatever.

There were three upsets yesterday that paid extra point dividends. They were:

14. Northwestern St. over (sigh) 3. Iowa - Calvin, David Ellie (hope you enjoy your points, Judases)
13. Bradley over 4. Kansas - Bill, Eileen, Gena, Mike
11. G. Mason over 6. Mich. St. - Acy, Eileen, Gena, Hank, Sarah, Steve

Congratulations, geniuses.

So, after Round One, here are the standings:

Player R1D1 R1D2 R1-Total
1.Eileen 13 14 27
1.Mike 12 15 27
3.Bill 13 13 26
3.David P. 14 12 26
3.Sarah 14 12 26

23.Dayle 12 8 20
23.Hank 9 11 20
27.Liz 11 8 19
28.Alexander 8 7 15

The big weiners of Day Two, as you can see, were Mike, Eileen and Bill. I'm still beating Maggi, so that's ok. The Prown Coleman mafia are still clustered up around the top, but not quite as obnoxiously as yesterday. Liz is cruelly beating my newborn son. That's nice, don't you think?

Have a happy Round Two, people.

Herb Sendek?

or Hank Kimball?

Go NC State!

Glad you're feeling better, Chris - here's more help

Chris

It's new swear words you can use because no one's ever heard them - courtesy of the World's only reliable newspaper, Weekly World News...You can relieve your frustration.

As for UConn, I am totally jizzlewaxed!

E

OK, I'm better now

People,

I've recovered a little from Iowa's disgraceful loss. Thank you all for your support through these difficult hours. How did I get through it, you ask? How did I regain my emotional balance? In the words of Lisa Simpson, "Oh, tai chi and chai tea." Actually, it was Thai food, a few glasses of red, and the baby going to sleep for the night, and I'm all better. What a trauma.

Anyhoo, I'll send out standings, etc., tomorrow morning. I'm probably going to fall asleep before the last game ends tonight. I think I have a cold or something coming on. More to pity me for, I guess.

It's a sad day for Iowans.

With flag literally and figuratively at half mast, I am

The Poolmeister

p.s. Go Albany Great Danes!

That's enough for me, I quit.

Have fun with the rest of the pool, guys. Talk to you next year.

Day Two TIPOFF!!!!

Davidson at Ohio...

Day One Results - Willow smart, the rest of us, well, not so much. Willow laps the field!!!

Folks,

Well, as the old saying goes, history may not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme. After Day One, just like last time, Willow is mopping the floor with the rest of us. There are a lot of us in the pool this year (27, I think) and I'll have to send you all a scorecard so you can keep track of who's who. I will also post this message on the blog. After this weekend I'd like to move away from email altogether, so get used to checking hoopkids.blogspot.com for messages.

16 games yesterday. Remember that during Round One, we give 1 point if a 1-10 seed wins, 2 points for 11-12 seed win, 3 points for a 13-14 seed win and 4 points for a 15-16 seed win. Only three games gave more than one point yesterday. Those games, and the geniuses who picked them are:

12.TX A&M over 5.Syracuse - Knott, Ellie, John, Matt, Willow

11. UWM over 6.OK - Alexander, Dana, Dave, David, Dayle, Dykes, Eileen, Ellie, Gena, Liz, Matt, Scott, Steve, Willow, Winkler

12. Montana over 5. Nevada - Acy, Bill, Sarah, Willow

Pretty impressive of Willow to get all three big upsets right. Maybe today's my day. Or maybe not. At least I'm beating Maggi, which is really all I care about. As she said in the blog, our side bet is that the loser this year really has to make the traveling trophy for pool winners happen. We've been threatening to do this for years now, but now that it's part of the bet, it'll happen. You should all be rooting for me to beat Maggi because she'll do a better job of making the trophy, your trophy, people, happen.

So, after Day One, here are the standings:

Player R1D1
Willow 16
David P. 14
John 14
Knott 14
Sarah 14
Bill 13
Calvin 13
Eileen 13
Matt 13
Steve 13
Dave W. 12
Dayle 12
Favs 12
Mike 12
Scott 12
Sophie 12
Acy 11
Dana 11
Gena 11
Jonathan 11
Liz 11
Ruth 11
Ben 10
Dykes 10
Maggi 10
Ellie 9
Hank 9
Alexander 8

Good luck on Round One Day Two. Let's all have a safe pool out there.

sabotage

So for all of you in- the- know people... Blaise Cronin, esteemed Farrah-haired dean of SLIS, has stated (and since embarrisingly recanted) that blogs are idiotic and don't mean anything to the world of academia (I'm paraphrasing but it's funnier that way) So I tried to post a message at SLIS today and it flatly refused to do so. However it did end up on the message board or whatever you call that part. Anyway, I'm here now and know better than to mess with Blog-hating-Farrah.

Looking ahead

I'm already looking forward to next year's NCAA tournament, the reminiscing, the shiny hair. It's going to be great.

E

Sorry Chris

That last post was me, not Chris. Sorry for the confusion. I'm still mad, though.
Maggi

Set this blog free!

Hey blogmaster, quit it with the blockage! So it thinks I'm a spambot. Is that like a fembot? Fix it already! I'm in a bad mood because I'm in last place, which the poolmeister is sure to let everyone know loud and clear. My whole family is beating me. I ask you, does that seem fair? Grrr.

Babysitter

Of all the times I decide to get a babysitter during Spring Break, I pick now!! I am supposed to be working really hard at preparing for next week's classes. Something tells me my students are all drunk watching basketball....oh wait, they're library students, never mind. I'm going home early.

TIP OFF!!!!

I'm home watching the first game. What are YOU doing, working?!?!

NIT?

Just in case anyone's interested, I give you the NIT site.
The Bearcats are seeded #1, but since this is a post season tournament my bet is a second round exit. It could be even earlier; they play Charlotte, that notorious Bearcat killer on Friday night. Unfortunately, it is not as fun as it used to be to make my annual "early exit" prediction for UC since Nancy canned Bob.

Dr. Phil

C,

Just for you, I have invited Dr. Phil to be part of our blog. -- Danielle is busy. I am hoping that both he and his wife and his son, whoever, will participate .

I guess I like this blogging stuff too much. I need a job....

Eileen

Go Wolfpack

Acy here and I just want to say that this is NC State's year! So for all you people who voted for the team that has been doing well, it' s not about that. LOYALTY PEOPLE LOYALTY so I voted for them the whole way through. Be true to your school.

Colonel Flagg

Are they any relation to Colonial Mustard? Does anyone have a Clue?

Nutmeggers

Greetings from Connecticut, home of those pesky Huskies. We are always excited to have the pool roll around. Willow's been asking about this "baseball" pool for months now.
Sarah

Go South Dakota State!

Hi All. I'm Dave Wallenberg, up the street. At least that's how I've announced myself every time I've called Chris and Maggi since they moved to Baden Street many moons ago. Alas, they now have a portable moving box parked in front of their home and I am already missing them. But we did talk Chris into negotiating into his lucrative contract with the Maine law school a reciprocity requirement that a bull moose must be shipped from Maine to Baden Street as of June 15, so all things considered, I think we're gonna make out on the deal. He can forage in the remains of their garden until plump and then we'll have a lottery for Moose hunting season. Mmmmmm! I am so excited that South Dakota State got into the tournament this year! And they just went Div. I a year ago! And I have them beating Indiana in the first round!!! For an old South Dakota boy........ wait, my wife is just informing me that it is San Diego State....d oooh! I hope Indiana loses anyway! Thanks Michael for arranging this whole blog deal. Just don't tell Jonathan K. how to get on here!! Hee Hee. Good Luck All. Dave Up the Street.

Now the party can start

Hey All,
Now that I'm here, let the true bashings begin. As I told Chris, the only thing I'm truly looking forward to is seeing God crush the spirits and souls of all Oral Roberts fans. Is there a team that is closely aligned with secular humanism, and what would their mascot be; just a big brain perhaps?

the wonders of madness

I just caught my first annual glimpse of Steve Lavin! Yet another reason to look forward to March madness. If I could just run my fingers through his hair...yet I fear it is just glue that shines and beckons me and I would be trapped. Madness. Madness.

Hi everyone

I love this time of year! I get to reconnect with all you nice people and then crush your spirits as I roar into first place with my amazing prognosticating. This year my blogging will be few and far between as time on the computer is limited by when Alexander sleeps. Otherwise, my posts look something like this: dfAJFklnefihfn;wgek$^#@. He will be entering picks though. We figure we'll put the team names in front of him and whichever team gets more spit up on it will be his pick, you know, just like the way his dad picks.

Mike, the blog looks really nice. I especially like the orange color font. Is that a subtle way of saying Syracuse takes the title? Ruth, do your loyalties lie with Kansas now? Jonathan, don't you love that trophy you got for winning last year that I was suppose to get but didn't and now I am sure to get lots of crap from my pool friends about?

Let the madness begin!

Right now, I'm tied for first place

Dear hermits, Get picking. Your teams, not your noses, or anything else worse than that. I see that the CBS analyst has Northwestern State beating my beloved Hawkeyes in the first round. Great, that's all I need. Let's just say this: Iowa goes out in the first round, pool's over.
