Round One Results and Standings

People,

OK, Round One is over. 32 teams out, including my beloved Hawkeyes. Maybe your favorite team is out, too. Yeah, well, whatever.

There were three upsets yesterday that paid extra point dividends. They were:

14. Northwestern St. over (sigh) 3. Iowa - Calvin, David Ellie (hope you enjoy your points, Judases)
13. Bradley over 4. Kansas - Bill, Eileen, Gena, Mike
11. G. Mason over 6. Mich. St. - Acy, Eileen, Gena, Hank, Sarah, Steve

Congratulations, geniuses.

So, after Round One, here are the standings:

Player R1D1 R1D2 R1-Total
1.Eileen 13 14 27
1.Mike 12 15 27
3.Bill 13 13 26
3.David P. 14 12 26
3.Sarah 14 12 26
6.Calvin 13 12 25
6.John 14 11 25
6.Knott 14 11 25
6.Steve 13 12 25
6.Willow 16 9 25
11.Dave W. 12 12 24
11.Matt 13 11 24
13.Favs 12 11 23
13.Sophie 12 11 23
15.Dykes 10 12 22
15.Gena 11 11 22
15.Jonathan 11 11 22
15.Maggi 10 12 22
15.Ruth 11 11 22
15.Scott 12 10 22
21.Dana 11 10 21
21.Ellie 9 12 21
23.Acy 11 9 20
23.Ben 10 10 20
23.Dayle 12 8 20
23.Hank 9 11 20
27.Liz 11 8 19
28.Alexander 8 7 15

The big weiners of Day Two, as you can see, were Mike, Eileen and Bill. I'm still beating Maggi, so that's ok. The Prown Coleman mafia are still clustered up around the top, but not quite as obnoxiously as yesterday. Liz is cruelly beating my newborn son. That's nice, don't you think?

Have a happy Round Two, people.

We so know that Eileen filled out Winkleman's bracket. Give it up, Michael.

Ah, it looks like my brilliant paper thesis on the value of research is paying off: I did no research this year and look how successfully my thesis is panning out! Both my picks (and my fathers channelled through me) are obviously suffering from the lack. My thesis is sound -- I'll be published in no time!!!

But it's not the act of publishing, but the citations, the myriad citations which will bring you fame and fortune!

Admit it Steve, you're just jealous that my wife is a better hoop analyst than yours...

A win is a win!

Dayle,

For an agreed upon amount, I would be willing to write a research paper and cite you an agreed upon number of times. If there is one thing I learned about library research, more research needs to be done.

"Picking: the picks, the noses, the seats and how we arranged books on picking at a small public library"

Outline:
Literature Review on Picks and Picking

Overview:
There are many articles on Picking, picks, toothpicks, pickaxes, pick handles, pica, pizza, pickled peppers and picking pianos for purchase, but little has been done to reasearch the picking behaviour (note the anglo spelling you dullards) in small to medium sized libraries in the 474 zip code prefix.

Conclusion:
This is a valuable research topic and more research needs to be done, using a sound methodology.

That's it- you expected more than one citation?

I am very excited about your seminal and pre-eminent study on picking. I am glad that you are going to pick up the research that needs to be done on this topic.
Your work has pointed the way for what research needs to be done, and is valuable for the new directions that all librarians look to in their future opportunities for picking.
